NCC's Timeline

1926-27

Belmont Club House is built in Fort Erie, Ontario by wealthy Americans and Canadians. It was originally constructed as an elaborate club-house for the affluent, and future plans for expansion included a golf course and private airport. As we now know, these plans never came to pass.
1932

On January 4, eleven students registered for an eight-week winter Bible school conducted in the Brethren in Christ church in Springville, Ontario
1934

The school moves to a large house about 80 miles to the north of Gormley, Ontario.
1938

The Brethren in Christ Ontario Joint Council approves the purchase of Belmont Club (now called Belmont Hall) along with 122 acres of land for $13,000. Ontario Bible School moves to this new location along the Niagara Parkway.
1948

The Dining Hall and Gymnasium are constructed.
1951

Ontario Bible School changes its name to Niagara Christian College.
1952

By now, student athletes have begun competing against other schools, provided they were Christian schools (eg. Eden Christian College, Great Lakes Christian College) or local church teams.
1969

NCC enrolls its first international student, who comes from Hong Kong. By the 1981-82 school year, the number of Chinese students increases to 42.
1971

On April 21, the barn and auditorium-gymnasium are destroyed in a dramatic fire that was started by arsonists. The two structures and all of their furnishings were utterly destroyed by the fire.

After much support from the community, the new gymnasium-auditorium building, which is now the gymnasium and dining hall, officially opens in December of the same year.
1977

On October 22, NCC hosts its first Heritage Day, which was a way to raise money for the school but also was an exciting social event and publicity opportunity for the school. Heritage Day featured apple butter making, sausage stuffing, antique machinery, a car show, and many vendors with their hand made items for sale. The first event hosted roughly 1500-2000 people on NCC’s campus.

Heritage Day was an exciting annual event and many alumni remember it as a major highlight from their time at NCC. Though NCC no longer hosts Heritage Day, as it finished its long run in the mid 2010’s, the Niagara Region still hosts many very similar fall fair events that many enjoy attending.
1982

E. Morris Sider, from the Class of 1947, writes Here Faith and Learning Meet: The Story of Niagara Christian College.
1995

Niagara Christian College changes it’s name to “Niagara Christian Collegiate”.
2000

Boys' Dorm is built
2004

Girls' Dorm is built
2006

NCC merges with ECA (Erie Christian Academy) and opens an Elementary School, offering grades 6 - 12. NCC changes its name to “Niagara Christian Community of Schools”.
2011

NCC purchases the convent next door to its campus, which then becomes NCC’s International Study Centre and library.
2012

NCC’s Elementary School closes and NCC’s name returns to “Niagara Christian Collegiate”.
2015

Once the elementary school is closed, NCC remodels its building into a second boys dorm, which is called the Annex. This creates more space for the growing number of international students enrolling to NCC.

NCC also renovates a portion of Belmont Hall into a music space, with a classroom in the upstairs level of the space and practice spaces in the lower level. At this time, the rest of Belmont Hall is closed due to major renovations being needed to the building.
2020

During March Break, it’s announced that school-campuses will be closed for three weeks due to the CoronaVirus Pandemic. What was intended to be only three weeks of school closure turns into the remainder of the school year. NCC moves to online learning, along with many other schools around the globe.
October 1, 2022

NCC celebrates its 90th anniversary by hosting a ceremony in which a tree was planted to commemorate the major milestone. The Campus Beautification Campaign is started as a way for the NCC community to support the school by donating towards the upkeep of the campus grounds.
December 23 - 26, 2022

NCC is hit by a major winter storm, along with most of the Niagara Region. All around the region of Niagara, most places were without power or heat, roads were closed and cars were abandoned on the sides of roads.

There was so much to be thankful for even in the midst of the chaos and cleanup. God made sure the school community was being taken care of, whether it's the fact that there were no students on campus during the storm, the resourcefulness of the team from the insurance company assigned to NCC, or the fact that Belmont Hall was receiving updates that would improve its space and move the school forward towards opening up Belmont Hall again one day.

People of God's Story

God's Story is an epic narrative, a story as big as the cosmos and as long as the history of the universe. God creates, humanity rebels, God promises, incarnates, and saves through Jesus, and we humans respond to the invitation to follow Jesus and partner with God in the restorative work he is doing in our world. When we place our small stories (and our school's story) as chapters of God's Story, they are infused with meaning and direction and hope.
